NUNNERY WOOD COLTS F.C.
Brief History
The club was formed in 1990 with just the one team. In the following seasons further teams were added and our reputation in both the city and the county grew. We moved to the old Metal Box ground at Battenhall Road, establishing our initial links with University of Worcester and by now a total of six teams made up the club. Two seasons were spent at Battenhall accumulating an impressive role of honours culminating with our inaugural Tournament in June 2004. The following season the club moved to its present home at the University of Worcester, Henwick Road campus. In 2005 with the increasing number of teams playing for the club we expanded our home venue to include Worcester YMCA. In 2006 a third home venue at Callow End was added and in 2007 a fourth back at Battenhall was also added.
Present Day
The club has acheived FA "Charter Standard" status, this recognises everyone's efforts in ensuring our club is correctly set up and operated in accordance with the exacting standards of the FA.
We are also extremely grateful to the University for their continued support. University of Worcester are already one of the leading educational sports centres in the UK and have ambitious plans to build on their growing reputation across the country. Community football is a key part of their set up and we are delighted that they see Nunnery Wood Colts as a suitable partner in this area.
We currently run thirteen teams from U8's to U15's and we working towards our aim of running two teams at each age group. All managers and coaches involved with the club are FA qualified. Our coaches also help with our Junior Colts coaching sessions at the University on Saturday afternoons from 1pm for children aged 5 to 8 years of all abilities. From these sessions we aim to not only to teach children to play football in a safe and enjoyable environment, but also to produce the next group of young footballers to join our team structure, year on year.
Future Plans
We are always looking to strengthen our current squads and will continue to develop youngsters through our coaching sessions. We would like to see more young ladies joining us to play football and, if we get enough, to enter girls teams into competitive football.
As the players get older, the club will be looking to enter sides in local senior football leagues. This will provide a natural progression from junior football for the players and also give our coaches the full range of age groups to coach and develop their own skills.
